The United Arab Emirates Ranks Among the Safest Countries for Walking at Night
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and four other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been ranked among the safest countries in the world in terms of night-time safety.
According to the Global Safety Report published by Gallup, Singapore topped the global list as the country where people feel the safest walking alone at night. It was followed by Tajikistan, China, the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Norway, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE and other neighboring Gulf countries received higher safety ratings than Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others.
The United Arab Emirates was also listed among the top 10 best countries for expatriates to live in, and was recognized once again in the mid-2025 review as one of the safest countries in the world.
Additionally, according to a 2024 police survey, more than 99% of Sharjah residents reported feeling safe in their daily lives.
